Why learn to create a vision board?

A vision board is essentially a visual tool to help you focus on what you want. They are personal in that they are filled with images and words that describe what you want to focus on and create in your life, on purpose.

Pause for a second and think about how this might actually work. Vision panels set your intentional life in motion, as they remind you to think about what you want more often.

But it’s not just about thinking about what you want.

Here’s the 6-step secret to creating a vision board that really works in 2022.

1. Think about your vision.

Take the time to think about what you want your future to look like. What do you dream of arriving or creating? It’s good to want what you want.

Think about your vision of your contribution, that is, of your work.

Your vision of your relationships with others.

Your vision of your relationship with yourself.

Your take on the new skills, experiences and trips you want in your life.

Your ideas for the things you want – for no other reason than because you want them.

And finally, your keywords for the year. What words do you think you really sum up for yourself? What words do you really want to have in mind more often?

2. Notice the themes.

Now that you’ve done the first job, watch to see what themes emerge. What is really important to you in terms of goals, values, principles and concepts?

It is quite common to see patterns. This little worksheet structure will help you with your brainstorming and insight.

3. Take a break and notice how it feels when you think about what you want to create in your life.

Thoughts create feelings. If your thoughts need work, you can also decide how you want to feel and then think of a thought that creates that feeling.

You can smell, intentionally. So when you check your emotions, you can decide if you feel the way you want. Do not skip this step.

4. Prepare to create your vision board.

First of all, start the hunt. Collect pictures that reflect what is most important to your future life. You can include photographs, graphic images from magazines, small items, you get the idea.

Second, you also need to make a decision on how your visualization board looks. You have several options: poster board, canvas or wood panel.

If you are using a poster board, you can use glue. If you want to use canvas or wood panels, you can use decoupage glue like Mod Podge.

So ask yourself, what kind of look do you want? And what size do you want it to be?

If you want something bigger and cheaper, go for the billboard.

If you want something smaller and easier to display, go for a canvas or a wood countertop.

5. Include a photo of yourself on your flip chart.

A great way to add connection to your vision board is to include a photo of yourself. Many people forget that they are the center of making their dreams come true.

You can choose any image that resonates when you think about your priorities. It could be just a photo of you, doing something you love, or maybe even a member of your family.

It doesn’t matter, but what matters is how you feel when you look at it.

Another tip is to use a current photo. Avoid the temptation to focus on the past. It’s the present, so be in the present.

6. Really make your vision board.

Put it all together. There is no right or wrong way to put your vision board together. Now you will have a stack of images that you want to include. You can make a simple collage or you can do more than one design. Whatever you do, it’s okay.

You can find tons of cool ideas on Pinterest. The sky is really the limit. Believe me you can have a lot of fun with this!

So, take a trip to Michaels (or your local equivalent) and get started.

A vision board is a great way to say goodbye to feeling blocked and take a step in the direction of being more intentional.

I like to call it “watching your life with regrets”.

The problem, however, is that bulletin boards don’t always work. You could go through the motions. Collect magazines. Cut out the pictures. But, you find that not all of these efforts always work to create the future you want.

There are a few main reasons why your vision board has not been so successful in the past.

You can’t just do an arts and crafts project.

You will also need to take concrete action. You will have to actually do something, not just think about what you want to do. If you are ready to accept this, you will set yourself up for success.

One thing that can help you adopt the right attitude to build your dream board is to think about the year. The past two years have been stressful and uncertain, and remain so today.

Vision boards help you think about the future. Check your attitude when you think about the year ahead.

Are you hopeful

Are you positive

Are you still thinking about what’s possible? What do you really want?

Do you feel stuck in negativity?

Are you really bothered by uncertainty?

An intentionally positive mindset will help you create a vision board that truly reflects what you want to create in 2022, even as the pandemic continues.

Creating a vision board helps you enlighten yourself.

When you are about to fill out a vision board, you are allowing yourself to have specific thoughts about your purpose, goals, desires, and dreams.

When you intentionally choose images to include on your flip chart, there are special thoughts behind each image.

And finding the pictures and figuring out how to include what you are thinking about takes time, time in which you are really focused on what you really want.

It is a very good thing.
